Many people love collecting stickers whether they have meaning or they just do it for fun.
Someone’s personal belongings can say a lot about them.
“I think it is a unique way of self expression,” Rebekah Lewis said.
Whether it is a computer or water bottle covered in stickers. Or maybe it is someone’s car bumper.
Many love to use this form of art to express themselves.
It is such a cool way to represent who you are as a person.
Whether it may be places you have visited such as Corey Pettit’s, Lakeland High School’s (LHS) Industrial Mechanics teacher, Deadwood, South Dakota sticker. He put that on his coffee mug to represent his adventure to Deadwood on a motorcycle last summer.
Pettit had a few stickers on his cup however, others are a different story.
I had a chance to talk to Lewis who takes her sticker collecting to another level.
From her water bottle to even her bed frame, they are covered from top to bottom in stickers. But, these are not random at all.
When she began collecting them she looked for the perfect fit for the aesthetic.
Not only did she want them to fit her personality but also mean something to her.
However, she left a little room for some random ones.
“I think my most random ones are the price tag stickers all over my computer from me being bored at work one day,” Lewis said.
Some choose these stickers very articulately like Lewis others not so much.
When talking to Delaney Gorton, an English teacher here at LHS, she said many of them reflect her personality but some also are just oddly placed.
“I have some on there that past students have given me but I also have one of a raccoon with a threat which is a little random,” Gorton said.
Some can even just be ones that someone picked up on a trip.
“The most random one is probably this Peculiarium sticker I got in Portland from a museum,” Alex Shroeder said.
People often use shoes, clothes, and accessories to express themselves. These people however decorate their personal belongings to show who they truly are.
But, why is this not as popular as it used to be?
I do not know the answer to this question but I do know that it is something that should come back and become more common.
To me, it is such an interesting way to present a little slice of yourself.
Whether it is stickers from places someone has visited to places to stickers that are just appealing to the eye.
“It is a nice way to start a conversation with someone,” Pettit said.
This is true because when someone sees a water bottle covered with stickers it can often bring questions to mind and can often be thought provoking.
It can also be inspiring to someone else and encourage them to also express themselves in such a way.
“I think it makes your things really pretty and is a creative way to represent yourself and it also makes me want to go buy stickers,” Taylor Howe said.
But, how does someone know which ones to put on their item and which ones to leave off.
Well, it all has to do with significance.
“My Spin ‘em one means the most to me because they have always been my sponsor and I have been a part of the spin company for a long time,” Howe said.
Whether these stickers represent a story of your life, paint your personality, or are just for eye appeal they all mean something to that person.
“I just love stickers,” Lewis said.
