The Lakeland Hawks had a tough weekend facing the Moscow Bears. The games ultimately ended in a sweep.
The first game ended in a lopsided 12-1 loss, and the second game ended in a closer defeat with the Hawks putting up a good fight ending in a 3-2 defeat.
Despite the final scores, there were several bright spots for the Hawks. Hunter Averitt continued to show his reliability at the plate, going 1-for-2 and crossing home plate for one of Lakeland’s two runs in the second game.
Nate Bevacqua also made an impact, recording his first double of the season.
On the mound, Landon Puzio had an insane first varsity game, pitching all seven innings in Game Two.
“It was pretty exciting getting to start for the first time in varsity,” Puzio said, “I am going to keep improving this season by working on different pitches and getting more strikeouts.”
Puzio allowed just one earned run and two unearned, on only three hits.
Dre Smith contributed on both sides of the ball, going 1-for-2 with an RBI and a stolen base, helping to keep pressure on the Bears’ defense throughout the game.
With the sweep, Lakeland falls to 4-10 on the season and continues to struggle with finding consistency after big wins.
The next game is with the Moscow Bears Tuesday, April 15 at 3:00 p.m. on Moscow’s home field.
