The Lakeland Hawks delivered a statement on Saturday, completing a thrilling doubleheader sweep over their league rivals in front of a roaring home crowd.
The Hawks clawed their way to a heart-pounding 13-12 victory in Game 1 and followed it up with a commanding 13-3 win in Game 2 to seal the day with authority.
The first game was nothing short of a rollercoaster. Both teams came out swinging, trading runs in a high-octane affair that kept fans on their seats until the last pitch. The Hawks jumped to an early lead, but their rivals responded with a relentless offensive push in the middle innings.
It’s no secret now that these Hawks can swing it in any game situation. With a whopping team batting average of 476, just underneath 500. There is just as impressive on-base percentage, 594 behind their batting average.
“We value our ability to play good offense every chance we get,” Delilah Zimmerman said.
Sophomore Raygen Dutton leads the Hawks in many states, including batting average and on-base percentage. Junior Kiersten Drake is right behind Dutton in batting average.
Drake leads the teams in home runs with a very solid early six homers for the Hawks.
Drake continues to help her team at the plate and has contributed massively to the team’s above-400 batting average in both games against the Bulldogs.
The Hawks are now 3-1 this year against the Bulldogs, showing that they mean business this year.
This also puts the Hawks at a 3-1 conference record with a 5-5 overall record. Although the overall record is not the best regarding the postseason, that conference record plays a huge role in a playoff berth.
Lakelands’ season is already down to just 12 games left to go, and the Hawks are ready to keep rolling and take this momentum into their next game against their next-door neighbors, the Timberlake Tigers.
