It is not every day you meet someone with a great sense of humor and whose death drops at random moments. But at Lakeland High School, we have Jonathan Nicolabo Yumol.
“I do death drops because I am able to and they are fun,” Yumol said.
Jonathan is a bright student who does a variety of activities in and out of school.
One of these is volunteer work. Jonathan volunteered at a hospital for four months to build his resume. He found that it was better for everybody to use his free time wisely by helping out.
“I really like Jonathan because he is always there to brighten up someone’s day and I hope he knows I always appreciate his presence,” Audrey Halgren, a classmate of Jonathan said, “Everyone who knows him loves being around him.”
An additional activity Jonathan does is BPA.
“I participate in BPA and act for Lakeland’s theater department,” Jonathan said.
BPA stands for Business Professionals of America. It encourages students to pursue careers in business management and related fields.
Jonathan said he joined BPA because his cousin was an officer at the middle school orientation, and he was forced into joining. He does not regret it because BPA is a fun environment, and you learn new things. Jonathan is also an officer for Business Professionals of America.
Another reason Jonathan joined BPA was that he wanted to apply real-world scenarios to his high school experiences and figure out what interests him.
This is when Jonathan realized that he is interested in finance and might want to study it more in the future.
On top of Business Professionals of America, Jonathan has been a part of the theater committee for quite some time now.
“I have found that theater gives a good social environment and gives me the chance to entertain and perform,” Jonathan said.
Nicolabo says that he has been in four shows and enjoys that he has received a variety of roles, ranging from comedic acting to more serious roles.
To set Jonathan up for his future, he has been taking a few dual-enrollment classes.
He has been taking a Comm 101 course through Lakeland.
“My favorite subject in school depends on what each class is assigned that week, but right now I would say my favorite class is my speech class because the students get to pick what they want to present on,” Nicolabo said.
Jonathan has recently given a speech about ASMR in which he has been interested in for a while.
While doing these college courses in high school, it will help Jonathan to finish college quicker while knocking out some mandatory classes needed for college credit.
Jonathan says he still does not have an exact idea of what his future holds, but for his short-term plan, he would like to work as a barista and go to college.
He would like to major in art or entertainment for his long-term goals.
