The “perfect night” lies just around the corner… and about a thousand dollars away.
From hair, nails, and a dress, prom can end up being quite an expensive night.
Some may find it unnecessary to drop hundreds on a dress they will wear once, and sit in their closet forever after that night.
However, others feel that spending the money on this night is a staple to creating the perfect prom experience.
Lakeland students suffer from this dilemma, especially during the final week before prom.
The biggest investment for prom tends to be the dress.
For girls, a common childhood dream is to have that prom transformation, from average student to a princess.
One of the main components in this transformation is the dress.
From glittery, to sleek styles, there is the perfect prom dress out there for everyone.
This all depends, of course, on the amount you’re willing to spend on a single use dress.
“I spent around 400 dollars on my prom dress this year.” Chloe Neff said.
This amount of money on a dress is unheard of and silly for some girls.
“I personally would not be allowed to spend a ton on a prom dress because I will only wear it for one event and probably never after that,” Gloria Peterson said.
These dresses, no matter what price, will hold a special place in many girls’ hearts.
For centuries, girls have kept their dresses and passed them down to their daughters or relatives, in a similar manner as wedding dress traditions.
The next biggest amount of money spent is on cosmetics.
Hair and makeup, nails and tans, girls specifically give their prettiest penny to support their looks on prom night.
The idea of spending the day “glowing up” is a fun one. Shopping and going to the salon is many girls’ ideal way to spend the day.
However, it’s not ideal for those on a budget.
A single spray tan averages 40 dollars.
Nails typically range from 70-120 dollars.
And getting your hair dyed is usually around 150 dollars.
Is this worth it?
Probably not.
Does this stop anyone?
For the most part, no.
“I hate spending so much money on beauty stuff because it’s always gone in like a couple weeks. And sitting through hour-long appointments to get nails and hair is so boring. But the end result is definitely worth it in my opinion,” Peterson said.
Besides, this spending is somewhat justifiable, as you do only get two prom nights your whole life.
