The Lakeland Baseball team had a promising day on March 25th, securing their first win of the season in a thrilling doubleheader.
In the first game, the team battled hard to come out on top with a 9-8 victory. It was an emotional win, marking their first of the season, and they certainly made it count.
The team was able to build momentum early, with several standout performances at the plate.
Griffin Tamangi had a solid outing, going 1-for-2 with a stolen base and two key RBIs that helped give the team an edge in the game.
“I needed to put the ball in play because there was only one out,” Tamangi said, “The second game we just could not get any hits. We need to start hitting the ball more. Our pitchers are doing their job, so the defense and hitting needs to improve.”
Jace Taylor also contributed significantly, crossing the plate twice and finishing 2-for-4 at the plate.
Cash Lund also made his presence felt, going 2-for-3 with a run scored and a stolen base.
“I had to stay loose and make contact,” Lund said, “We all were making contact during the second game but could not find a gap. We also made more errors. We need to try and grow and keep doing things right.”
However, despite the excitement of the first win, the team couldn’t carry the momentum into the second game of the day.
Lakeland lost 6-1, with the opposing team shutting them down offensively. It was a tough defeat, but with the first win under their belt, there’s hope that the team can continue to build on this success and turn the season around.
The split result from March 25th shows a team that they are starting to find its footing, and they’ll look to continue improving as they move forward in the season.
