With the Spring season here, so is the Lakeland track season.
Lakeland has a very solid track team and they’re only getting better. From sprinting to throwing to jumping, the Hawks really can do it all.
In recent seasons the Hawks have been fairly well known for their relay race teams having multiple school records broken and set. This year is no different, as the Hawks are striving for success and are ready to compete all season long.
“We have a really good group of athletes this season,” Peyton Sardinha said.
Lakeland is home to many stunning track athletes but why does track bring in so many new athletes?
High school Track and Field is a fantastic way to try out a sport for the first time. It’s super welcoming to beginners because there are so many different events. You don’t have to be a super speedy sprinter; you could try long distance running, jumping events like the long jump or high jump, or even throwing events like shot put or discus. This means you can find something that fits your strengths and interests.
Being part of a team is also extremely helpful. You’ll meet new friends, learn to support each other, and celebrate everyone’s achievements, big or small.
Track is also great for building overall fitness. You’ll get stronger, faster, and improve your endurance, which is helpful for all sorts of activities. And you’ll learn important life skills like setting goals, working hard, and pushing yourself to try new things. Even if you’ve never run a race or thrown anything heavier than a ball, high school Track is a fun and supportive place to start your athletic journey.
Lakeland is always encouraging students to join a sport and Track is perfect for students who are first time athletes. “I’ve been running Track for the High school since freshman year and I truly think it’s one of the best sports for people who don’t really participate in sports,” Sarhdina said.
When spring comes around many people think Baseball, Softball, Tennis, but Lakeland Track and Field is here and so are Lakelands athletes ready to compete and dominate all season long.
The teams first meet is coming up next Friday, and the Hawks are bound for victory,
“We have been working hard in the off season and it’s time to show it,” Sarhdina said.
