Tons of our Lakeland clubs and athletics found themselves headed to districts for their 2025 season.
One of the clubs in this big group is BPA and Speech.
Both teams traveled to Southern Idaho to compete in a series of professional competitions, including speeches, computer programming software competitions, and other business-like situations.
The students within the club put on their best business casual and compete for long hours.
The strong dedication to the club and the students’ extensive knowledge of the topics landed Lakeland a spot to compete at state.
Many different students competed in their competitions.
One competitor, Teagan Patrick, strongly advocates for the BPA club. She is always looking for new members to recruit to the club. However, her favorite part about the district competition is not the competition.
“It is a very educational experience. You meet many new people, but my favorite part is the scavenger hunt.” Patrick said.
The club is great for students interested in pursuing careers in business management, technology, finance, or accounting.
“I really like doing personal finance management and human resource management as well. Finance is kind of my backup for a serious career.” Jonathan Nicalabo-Yumol said.
The club is also great for those looking for new friends, memories, and a good time.
The club always ensures that there are some sort of team-building activities to keep its members engaged and happy throughout the stressful competition.
This year, and for many other years, the club has put on a scavenger hunt.
Some of the students can create and run the scavenger hunt, while others participate in it.
Despite all the fun at districts, it can also be filled with nerves and anxiety.
“Everything is at the next level, and everyone, this is what people’s lives have led up to. These people make finance or coding their life. It’s a bunch of sweat in a Fortnite term against kids who do it for fun.” Nicalabo-Yumol said.
Through all the trials the competition can pose, the memories made there can stay with all the participants for the rest of their lives.
