A camera that lasts decades without breaking, a camera that contains memories of some people’s childhoods. Sony manufactured the Cyber-Shot DSC-W330 camera in 2010, priced it at approximately $170, and nowadays sells for about $10-$20 more.
This digital pocket camera, despite being from so long ago, takes pretty good quality photos for its cheap price. The Cyber-Shot DSC-W330 14.1 megapixel sensor and a 4x optical zoom, the lens which has a two-step aperture offers a f/2.7 or f/8.0 at wide-angle, and has a 4:3 aspect ratio images at up to 4,320 x 3,240 pixel resolution.
In other words, It has a 14.1 megapixel sensor, meaning that it can capture fairly detailed images. The 4x optical zoom lets you zoom closer to whatever is being photographed without losing quality. The camera’s lens has two different brightness settings (called apertures), which affect how much light enters the lens. The camera takes photos in a 4:3 ratio, which is a small, rectangular shape with a maximum resolution of 4,320 x 3,240 pixels, which means the image can be sharp.
Compared to newer cameras, the Cyber-Shot DSC-W330 isn’t great, it was made in 2010 after all, but for an old digital camera it is a good option for those who like the nostalgic look old cameras give. Not only does it have that old camera look, because it is an old camera, it has a ton of features for all different types of pictures.
Some of its features include a steady shot image stabiliser, smile shutter technology automatically captures a smile and takes a picture, scene selection that adjusts photo settings based on what you select (landscape, twilight portrait, beach, etc.), and face detection.
Though, while every camera has its pros, every camera has its cons as well. The Cyber-Shot DSC-W330 is a bit of a slow camera; it turns on slowly, has a slow shutter speed, and takes a while to ready itself after taking a photo. It doesn’t record for long either, at most about 29 minutes. It also takes awhile to charge, about approx. 185 minutes (3 hours), has a battery life of about 330 minutes (5.5 hours).
Moreover, depending on the age of the battery, the hours the Cyber-Shot DSC-W330 took to charge could turn into days. My Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-W330 takes a long time to charge because of the age of the battery, about 2 days, and the battery lasts about an hour or two if consistently on.
Personally, I enjoy using this camera because of its size. It fits in a small pocket, fits in a bag, and is compact. Anywhere, anytime, I could pull it out to take a photo of anything I want, like a boring sunset photo or a basic landscape shot.
This camera isn’t good for just landscape photography though, it’s good for everything else as well. I don’t take many photos, so despite its shortened battery life compared to other cameras, the quality and small features of the camera make me enjoy it. Some would prefer a more expensive camera that takes photos at the highest resolution, but the quality is what really appeals to me.
I’m not an expert on cameras, but as someone who takes a lot of photos when I find time to, I think this camera is a great option for those who enjoy smaller, cheaper, and old cameras that have pretty nice quality, the Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-W330 is a great option for some.
