Its that time of year again, Lakeland Baseball is ready to kick off there 2025 season. New season means new players that must fill certain roles that were once filled by last year’s seniors.
The 2025 team is a fairly young group, with only three seniors on the team and seven juniors. The rest of the team filled by sophomores and even some freshman.
“Our younger guys are working hard and know the kind of role they need or have this season,” Jake Larcher said.
The Hawks have started practicing in order to prepare for their first season game that’s coming up quick against the Timberlake Tigers.
This seasons early practices are a little different than last year though, the Hawks have been lucky enough to get the weather in order to host outside practices instead of in the gym. Last season was not like this, the Hawks were forced inside by mother nature almost all the way up to the first season game.
“Being outside is a game changer for our team, especially with our first game coming up so soon,” Larcher said.
As weather warms up only more and more opportunities for this team to get better open up as well.
The Hawks are ready to improve this team from last season and grow all together under head coach Al Bevacqua.
Bevacqua is headed into his second season as head coach and he feels great about this year’s squad.
“I feel optimistic about this year’s team, we have a good mix of talent and grit,” Bevacqua said.
As a head coach your looking forward to the season all year long, but what is Bevacqua looking forward to most.
“I am looking forward to releasing the reigns and see how high these Hawks can fly,” Bevacqua said, “Also looking forward to Lewiston joining with divisions with us and battling it out with our 6A opponents.”
In order to have a good season improvement is everything, what do the Hawks need to really improve on from last season in order to keep on winning?
Bevacqua said the Hawks need to improve its fielding percentage, which hoved just above 90 percent last year. He also said they need to hit the gaps more and execute with runners in scoring position.
The Hawks double header against Timberlake takes place on March 12 at Gorton Field.
