The Lakeland Hawks girls’ basketball team has officially lost their chance to go to state.
On Thursday, Feb. 13, they lost to the Sandpoint Bulldogs 59-50, after losing to the Bulldogs 44-42, on Tuesday, Feb. 11.
The Hawks went cold in the fourth quarter, and the Bulldogs capitalized on that. The Bulldogs were without their best player, so they had to fight. The whole game was back and forth, but before halftime, the Hawks were up by twelve points.
“Just a lot of their shots went in and out shots were just not falling in,” Macy Bretveld said, “I think it just brought down our momentum. Overall, we could have talked more and slowed the game down a little bit.”
The Hawks had beaten the Bulldogs both times they played them during the season but have fallen short during the district games. The Hawks were seeded second and have come to the expectations.
“Next season, we are going to come in with a fire to win next and just do it as a team,” Bretveld said.
It has brought the final record of the season for the Hawks to 15-7 and Bulldogs 14-10.
“The growth we had as a team and with individuals was exponential,” Caelyn Caulifeild said, “The girls will need to work hard over the summer so, we can continue to build off of what we build this season, we won’t be starting from scratch.”
