The Lakeland Hawks girls basketball team fell to the Sandpoint Bulldogs in a conference game 44-42.
The Hawks traveled up north to take on their rival, The Bulldogs.
This is the third time they’ve played this season and the first time the Hawks have been dealt a loss in all three games.
This matchup never seems to disappoint when it comes to entertainment with constant close games. It was clear that The Hawks came to play and so did their opponent with the final score only being a one basket difference.
“They picked up some momentum during the end of the game and it really hurt us in the outcome,” Jersi McMurray said.
Although the Hawks lost this game, this is not over just yet. This Sandpoint series is a best out of three match up.
The Hawks will play the Bulldogs once again and if they win that game they’ll go to a final game. If the Hawks fall in this game coming up the Bulldogs will advance and the Hawks will not.
“I like the best of 3 match ups overall,” McMurray said. “It is hard playing the same team so many times like we do but it’s always a good matchup,” McMurray said.
The Hawks looking for a different outcome this time around are ready to focus up and do what they do best and that’s win. “We need to want it more than them, at the end of the day it’s who wants it more,” McMurray said.
The Hawks need to build a fire inside themselves and play the best game they can. McMurray mentioned the end of the game is when the Bulldogs started to pull away, so playing as hard as you can from start to finish could be a huge key for this Hawks team.
The Hawks play again this Thursday up North in Sandpoint territory, a win keeps them in, a loss kicks them out.
