The second Sunday of February every year is a nation wide game all about one millionaire passing the ball to another.
According to En.as.com, The average NFL salary is around $3.2 million as of 2024. Which is up 2.8 million dollars from the year prior.
Top player Pat Mahomes gets $40 million annually.
This is outrageous because doctors who save lives do not make near as much money as a professional football player.
“I don’t think they should get paid that much because they aren’t saving lives,” Casen Hostetler said.
The average annual salary of a doctor is $256,826, according to ZipRecruiter.
However, the salary of a player depends on position. Surprisingly enough the quarterback is not the highest paying position.
“I can see it from both sides, I don’t think they need millions but at the same time for what they do it somewhat makes sense,” Taylor Howe said.
The question is why do they get paid so much?
Well there are a few reasons.
Starting with the fact that they could get cut at any time meaning they could potentially not get their full salary. Players also are only in the league for about three years if they are able to stick around that long.
With each year that a player is on the team their salary increases however, when they are out of the league they no longer have a salary.
Oftentimes, it can be forgotten that the players’ whole livelihoods rely on such an unstable career.
But, while they were in they made millions of dollars.
This is a controversial topic for most.
However, how many people in the world can do what they do?
They are paid for what they are worth.
Another reason for their high salary is how much the NFL makes off of them.
It would almost be a crime for them to get paid any less than what they already get, due to how much revenue they bring in for the industry.
According to SportsPro.com, the NFL revenue of 2024 was about $2.49 billion.
If a company you worked for made that money I am sure you would also expect to be getting paid millions.
This revenue is made off of merchandise, tickets to games and so much more.
The cheapest seat at the Super Bowl was about $3,000. That is just one ticket all the way up at the top of the stadium. In that row alone there are hundreds of seats.
The Super Bowl brings in a ton of money to the NFL.
But the seats the fans sit in are not the only things that cost money.
The Super Bowl halftime show is loved by many around the globe. This year the two stars running the show were rapper Kendrick Lamar and SZA, an R&B singer and songwriter.
These two artists both won Grammys this year. Kendrick Lamar won song of the year for his song “Not Like Us,” that was actually played during the halftime show. He also won record of the year.
With two talented artists like them you would think they would be able to perform for free, right? Wrong. The artists who perform at the halftime show actually have to pay to be there just like the fans.
Artists of this halftime show can pay up to millions of dollars to perform.
However, in return the NFL covers costs and production expenses and also pays the performers only $1,000 a day due to a union contract, according to EssentiallySports.com.
“Honestly, it is kind of over hyped, like all the commercials saying coming up soon made me annoyed,” Alexander Mura said.
The reason they do not get paid much to perform is because the performance is rewarding enough for them.
The Super Bowl Halftime Show is one of the most popular performances of all history.
In my opinion, I think that the Super Bowl is not worth the millions of dollars that are put into it.
I also think that football players do not need millions of dollars to pass a ball down the field. The reasoning behind why I feel this way is because it is not the hardest thing to do in the world.
I do think that what they do is cool and something I could never do,
Unlike doctors, they do not need a degree to do what they do.
In my opinion, someone that conducts life threatening surgery should not get paid a quarter of what a kicker gets when they are only on the field for a minute or two. While there are doctors out there saving lives as they are running around the Super Bowl in pads.
I also disagree with how the artists of the halftime show have to pay to be there. I personally think that them being invited should be enough.
But on the other hand I also disagree with how they get paid to be there. Especially since it’s daily, they should just get paid for the performance and that’s all.
I do think it is fair that the NFL pays for their expenses and the performance costs because they are producing the super bowl including the halftime show.
Plus if they make over a billion dollars a year they should be able to dish out a few million for the halftime show everyone knows and loves.
