There is no one way to describe freshman Serafina Aldrich. She beams with positivity and good vibes and is in no way short of expressing herself.
Aldrich undeniably stands out wherever she is with her eclectic and unique style. Constantly surrounded by siblings and family members contributes to this expression and admirable ability to stand out.
Fashion and style is Aldrich’s main passion and how she chooses to express herself.
“I tried to find a specific style I fit into and liked, and I couldn’t find any, and so I just started buying and wearing whatever I thought looked nice,” Aldrich said.
Anytime you catch a glimpse of her outfits she’s pairing countless silhouettes and textures but she has a skill to make it seem seamless.
“When I feel like I look good, I feel way more confident. As an introvert, that’s really important. It’s really exhausting for me and scary for me to talk to people so thinking I look good or look cool is like a big part of that for me. I look at myself in the mirror, and if I don’t think, wow I want to be your friend then I don’t want to go out like that,” Aldrich said.
Once again combining a wide variety of styles Aldrich takes most of her ideas from academia style. This style consists of lots of slacks and sweaters in the clothing, things you’d typically see in the look of a school uniform.
I really wanted that to be my style but there wasn’t a lot of color in it, and also I didn’t want to have just one set specific style. So I take a lot of inspiration from that when I’m buying clothes. I look for those specific items like Trousers and vests and browns and all that,” Aldrich said.
Where most people get their inspiration from trends and celebrities Aldrich strays. She is completely her own when it comes to her fashion.
That is to say she isn’t fully excluded from noticing how celebrities dress.
“Doechii in her new music video for her song she had really baggy pants and was wearing really baggy things but then had a tight vest over top and that reminded me of an outfit I actually wore,” Aldrich said.
While she doesn’t follow and keep the latest trends with her style it sometimes appears the trends follow her and she combines and stacks many.
I almost resent trends and being basic in style because whenever I see someone who has a very unique or certain style it’s so cool to me, and I also want to be that person because again dressing is a really big part of self expression and when I see someone dressing a really unique way, I think wow I know who you are and I want to be friends with you,” Aldrich said.
Since middle school Aldrich has had this flare and fire for how she dresses. From seeing how her friends dressed in 7th and 8th grade and essentially playing dress up with them she discovered the method of expression and ever since has been crafting these outfits.
“Sometimes I’d go over to their house and they’d let me wear their clothes and stuff. They’d dress me how they thought they would dress if they were me and it was really fun and I was like wow, I look great,” Aldrich said.
Aldrich also enjoys thrifting when she can and the knowledge that when someone is thrifting it’s almost a way of saying and acknowledging that you don’t always need to look expensive to look good and she finds it a more creative outlet to find these unique pieces.
“I wish people would dress more out there and be unique because it’s really cool to see the way people dress themselves and express themselves. For me it’s such a big part of self expression,” Aldrich said.
Aldrich has found the perfect outlet to remain quiet and still express herself loudly with the clothes she wears.
If you ever see her in the halls it’s likely she’ll have a smile on her face and a collection of pieces fit together for an exciting outfit no matter the occasion.
