Through the eyes of youth, we see a new form of creativity and art.
At Lakeland High School, upcoming artists of today’s world thrive in an artistic environment.
Each student is incredibly innovative and creative in every way. Even though each student is studying with the same teacher and program, they all create their own form of art and administer their own sense of belief in what art means to them.
With a stroke of a brush or a scrape of a pencil creativity shines through.
“I like art with a story behind it,” Kristin Gravatt said, “I really encourage critical thinking.”
These talented students each have their own way of showing their art either through a story or through imagination.
Each perspective is shown through a form of emotion: sad, happy, angry, free; they all make up pieces of art.
The emotion that the artist wants to reflect is shown through colors, shapes, and lines.
A person who paints with purple may want their piece to be mysterious and possibly confuse their viewer; while a person using green wants to reflect a form of peace, which will calm the viewer.
“Art is a great way to explain things that a lot of people can not express through their words and writing, and it shows a lot of emotions that you can not show through your words,” Kiah Jacobsen said.
However, not all art is shown through a beautiful painting or creative drawing.
Creativity is found all over the school, not just in an art class. Art and creativity moves through the tune of a piano or the harmonic of a choir.
”Music is the embodiment of the soul and each soul is really different,” Stormy Lawson said. “It reflects the person’s emotions, thoughts, and innermost feelings.”
Although music is not always the first thought that comes to mind when one thinks of art, it is a form of art through expression.
By changing the rhythm, tempo, and harmony of music, one can express different feelings in their audience.
Usually through classical music the audience can feel at ease; however, a person who is listening to heavy metal will increase feeling of stress.
“The reason we enjoy music is because it is an expression of us as human beings,” Lakeland’s music director Dr. Michael Keepe said. “Through that we are able to connect with each other on a much deeper level.”
Musicians share a very similar mindset with artists; both being incredibly creative and influential.
Whether it is Motzart, Monet or even a student from your local school, the value of art is there.
