Lakeland Wrestling has had a long three days of wrestling. The boys won both their duals and took third at North Idaho Rumble. The girls won their dual and had one placer at Rumble.
On Jan 30. The girls team won their second-ever dual against Pocatello at Lakeland High School 42-12.
“I feel we are all doing really well, there has been a lot of improvement from the beginning of the season,” Lillian Stallcup said.
The boys beat Timberlake 51-33 and Pocatello 69-15.
At North Idaho Rumble Jan 31- Feb 1 The girls team won some matches and came out with one placer. Teagan Patrick at 107 took 5th place.
Stallcup may not have placed, but she won her first wrestling match ever at 114 pounds with a fall in 28 seconds.
“It felt really good to finally win,” Stallcup said, “I was so excited. I went in with a confident mindset.”
The boys ended with three placers and two champions. As a team they placed third with 125.5 points.
At 106 pounds, Caleb Adams made it to the Semi-Finals on the championship side and lost to Wyatt Carey getting put in the consolation bracket. He lost his next match and went on to the fifth and sixth placing match and won, taking fifth.
Carson Leonard at 120 pounds took the tournament and teched two boys and pinned three. He has won Rumble two years in a row.
“I showed up thinking I was supposed to win,” Leonard said, “I just made sure to get warmed up because you can’t go into your matches cold and just tried to keep my mind straight.”
Jaron Knopp at 126 also won Rumble. He pinned all five of his opponents before the third period.
Cole Cooper at 144 pounds made it to the semi-finals before being put to the backside. He won the rest of his matches and took third. His final match was a battle against Gunnar Whitlock from Lewiston. He won 5-3, a stall call put him in the lead.
Austin Howell took fifth. He won two matches before being put to the backside. He ended up losing to Tanner Piper which put him in the fifth and sixth placing match.
The girls varsity will be in Bonners Ferry Feb 7-8 and the varsity boys will be in Weiser.
