The Lakeland Hawks basketball team took on the Genesis Prep Jaguars in a non-conference showdown.
The Hawks came up with the win 67-57.
“It was a rough game at first but we came out on top and that’s what matters,” Jake Larcher said.
This put a loss on the Jaguar’s record and a win to Lakeland’s. Lakeland’s record is now 9-8, putting them with an overall winning record.
A solid win this deep in the season. One thing this team has shown is consistency, they recently went on a five game win streak and showed off their true ability to pick up wins on a basis.
“We were all really playing our role and executing on both ends,” Larcher said.
That’s the key right there, making sure everybody is doing their jobs.
The ability to have teammates fill in their roles makes a huge difference in the way the game is played on the court. With this season slowly winding down, these wins like the one over the Jaguars are extremely important. Not only for building a better record but keeping morale high going into postseason games is a must for all teams.
How do the Hawks plan on staying in the loop coming into the end of the season?
“Going as hard as we can in practice, staying focused and working on what we need to work on,” Larcher said.
Keeping the eyes forward and having tunnel vision is a crucial part of winning games as a team.
The Hawks are getting ready for a battle they have already had earlier this season, the Lewiston Bengals.
The Hawks fell to the Bengals in their last showdown but Lakeland is coming with some different energy this time around. Although the Bengals will be given home court advantage, the Hawks are only focused on one thing and that’s some on the road revenge.
“We’re prepared for a close game, it was close last time and I’m sure it’ll be another good game,” Larcher said.
