Kimber is the most joyful and energetic person I have ever met. She is always working hard to bring a positive attitude to any situation. Determined is a great word to describe Kimber and her outlook on life!
Q: What’s your name, age, and grade?
A: My name is Kimber Magnus, I’m 14 and I’m a Freshman
Q: What’s a typical day like for you?
A: A typical day for me is very simple. I just go to school and then go to dance practice. Dance is a very time-consuming sport so that’s normally where I am!
Q: What are you passionate about, and why?
A: I am very passionate about dance. I love dancing because it allows me to express myself in ways that words can’t. It is really fun to just be able to do what you’re passionate about without being judged because everyone at dance is there to do the same things! It is so fun to be able to travel to new places and learn all different types of choreography and meet new friends. And, there is always something to improve on in dance so there is always something new to work on so it never really gets boring!
Q: Who or what inspires you the most?
A: My mom definitely inspires me the most. She works really hard to make sure me and my brother always have everything we need and more. It is really inspiring to see how hard she works everyday and how she has worked for everything we have, and all of the opportunities I get.
Q: What do you do in your free time? Any hobbies or interests?
A: I am a competitive dancer, so I don’t have much free time. But in my free time I am definitely dancing! I have been dancing for around 7 years now at a studio, but this year I also joined the dance team at school and it has been so much fun meeting new friends and learning new choreography.
Q: What’s something most people don’t know about you?
A: Something people don’t know about me is I actually love to sew and knit. My grandma is very talented at sewing so I got taught at a pretty young age how to sew little pillows with her for fun. Then, a few years ago she taught me how to knit. It is very relaxing. I never have actually made anything though, I just have a very long chain going at the moment.
Q: Do you have any role models or mentors? How have they impacted you?
A: The seniors at both my studio dance and dance team are my biggest role models and mentors. They are all like my big sisters and my best friends. They always help give me advice about dance and school, but especially dance. A lot of them have helped shape me into the dancer I am today and the person! If I ever need help with a dance step or some math homework they will always be there for me.
Q: How do you define success?
A: I would define success as simply as if you are happy in life. In my opinion, you don’t need to have the best job or the most money to be successful. Because you could have all the money in the world and still not be happy. But if everyday you wake up and you are excited about life and see what today has to bring (or most of the time because everyone has bad days), then I would say you are succeeding in life.
Q: How do you balance your work/school responsibilities with your personal life?
A: Although I don’t work yet I am always very busy with school. I try my best to get the best grades I can and managing school while being an athlete is sometimes rough. I try to manage my time not only out of school but also in school. For instance, if I have no time after school that day because of dance and know I need to study for a big test, I will try and do it at lunch instead of staying up until midnight. Or, if I am working on nothing in one class, I will try and work on an assignment for another during that time.
Q: What do you hope people will remember you for?
A: I would hope that people would remember me for being happy most of the time and trying to make the best out of bad or sad situations. I always try to be positive and put my best foot forward in situations. I try to think if someone is sad or upset, you never know if just a little bit of joy could cheer them up or make their day. So that’s what I hope people remember me for.
