The Lakeland girls basketball team took on their division rivalry the Sandpoint Bulldogs.
The Hawks were feeling it at home taking the big win over the Bulldogs 60-50. A close game to say the least, although the Hawks pulled through with the win the Bulldogs were not gonna give in that easy.
The first quarter ended up being 17-16 with Sandpoint in the lead going into the second quarter. The Hawks put up a solid 13 points in the second quarter out scoring the Bulldogs by 3.
In every quarter after the first the Hawks out scored the Bulldogs just barely which would later on lead to the Hawks big victory.
This win puts the Hawks at a 9-3 record and on the other side of the spectrum demotes the Bulldogs to 6-7.
Landree Simon had an amazing second half and just completely took over the court.
“We really focused on keeping the same energy and finishing strong,” Simon said.
The Hawks started very strong but the way this team finished the game was unbelievable. Firing on all cylinders this Hawks team is ready and excited for the second conference matchup against Sandpoint in the annual Battle for The Battle. The Hawks look to win that game just as they did this game. The matchup will be in Bulldog territory, putting some extra pressure on the Hawks.
“This win was a huge morale booster for our team especially with the Battle for the Paddle coming up so soon” Simon said.
As the season goes on and these Hawks grow stronger these games will only get more impressive.
“No better feeling than a win at home,” Simon said.
