Many people love the Jeep XJ, also known as the Jeep Cherokee, especially in the northern U.S.
Due to its suspension and 4WD, it has exceptional winter and off-roading abilities. It can go into low gear and is low to the ground, so it can get a good grip and not slide around as much in winter weather.
The XJ comes with an inline 6 making 190 HP and 225 LB-FT torque. That torque makes it especially good for off-roading. It is to the point where you won’t spin your tires but keep an exceptional amount of power.
“The XJ engine has pretty much the perfect amount of torque for off-roading,” Keetyn Blankenship said.
The XJ’s don’t just dominate in the performance aspect, they also have pristine looks. Although a little outdated for the time the XJ has a beautiful square body, everything is squared, from the headlights to the taillights, the front to the back, side to side, and even top to bottom. It’s like driving around a big square, but in a good way it does not share the same aspects as the Ford Flex, Scion XB, Honda Element, and quite literally the Nissan CUBE.
“I love the front profile with the square headlights and grill,” Jack Jones said.
I have owned a Jeep XJ for just about a year now, though it has been in my family for about 17.
One thing that the XJ proves wrong about the reputation of Jeep is its durability. We have nearly never had to do any major fix ups on it and most importantly it has never left us hanging on the side of the road. Although most all XJs will have cooling problems, they only show up in the summer with the AC on full blast.
But if proper precautions are taken, which is not that much to begin with, the XJ will continue driving forever.
And one thing that it gets done especially well is the comfort and simplicity. Most XJs have cloth seats with some insane cushioning giving both comfortability and breathability.
Although the XJ is not the Grand Cherokee it still has plenty of space and storage area.
The back seats are large enough to comfortably sit a man that is about 6 foot 3 inches with leg room to spare. And the hatch opens up to give about two and a half feet with the seats up but when they are down it increases to a whopping five feet.
“The seats in the XJ are especially comfy and the wood details on the dash look great,” Blankenship said.
The XJ is an immaculate choice for anyone who doesn’t need anything as large as the grand cherokee, loves a nice box shape and is in need of a cheap vehicle.
