The Lakeland wrestling team had a great weekend. The boys’ team took first place overall in the Central Valley Duals.
They came out with six undefeated wrestlers: Caleb Adams (106 pounds), Zach Teal (106), Carson Leonard (120), Jaren Knopp (126), Austin Howell (150) and Kaleb Hammer (157) went unbeaten for Lakeland. This was an amazing accomplishment for these boys and coaches so far. Undefeated is always the goal and this team means business. Carson Leonard last year was a state champion as a freshman on varsity, and this year, he is off to a great start already. Austin Howell has been working harder than ever to keep this undefeated season going.
“It’s one of the best feelings out there,” Howell said.
The girls team was at the Blizzard.
Teagan Patrick placed 2nd (107), Addie Lisenbe placed 3rd (138), and Shariece Vandever placed 2nd (165).
“I am disappointed with the outcome, the final match was not one I should have lost,” Patrick said, “Since it was the first tournament of the season I learned I need to go into the match and not panic when I get down in points. I have grown a lot since last year and am excited to see how the season goes.”
