The Lakeland Girls basketball team takes the home opener against Kellog 56-12. This was the season’s first game, and the girls had a brand new assistant coach.
They pushed the ball well throughout the game, and everyone ran the court well.
Landree Simon scored the most with 16 points.
“I feel like I played pretty well; I played well with taking the ball to the basket,” Landree Simon said, “As a team, we can improve on having the same intensity throughout the game from start to finish. For defensively, we can work on our defense principles, which comes with communicating.”
Mariana Bullington had seven rebounds throughout the game.
“I think it went well; we need to work on finishing in transition layups and sprinting to our closeouts,” Caelyn Caulfield said, “Overall, it was a great way to start the season.”
This game was a great way to start the season and show where the team is during games.
Caulfield said they need to improve their ability to look for opportunities to score and continue to prioritize defense. This was a good way to work on their skills in a real game, which they could fine-tune during practice.
The next game is against Shadle Park at Lakeland High School on Dec 5th.
