The Lakeland wrestling team had their annual green vs. gold dual on December 3rd to decide the varsity lineup. The boys and girls have been putting in the effort for the last two weeks of practice and finally got to wrestle for the starting lineup.
The girls have their biggest team ever with 10 girls.
The 100-pound starter is Cadyn Leonard and at 107 is Teagan Patrick.
Lillian Stallcup wrestled Emma Moore for the 120 starting spot and Stallcup won with a pin.
“It feels good to win my first real match,” Stallcup said, “It made me feel better up in front of a crowd. I am most excited for bonding with the girls on my team.”
Alex Schoeder wrestled Sophia Avdeyev for the varsity spot at 126. Schoeder won with a pin in first period.
Addie Lisenbe has the 145 varsity spot and won against Kiera Balth with a pin.
Shariece Vandever takes the 165 varsity spot with a pin against Avah Clark.
Zach Teal beat Joziah Koonce for the 98 spot with a pin. Caleb Adams is the 106 starter and Kade Knopp is the 113 starter.
Carson Leonard beat Isaac Brown with a pin claiming his 120 varsity spot.
Jaren Knopp beat Kutter O’Brien with a tech and is the 126 varsity starter.
Justin Baxter is the 132 starter beating Knox Fortin with a pin.
“It feels good starting varsity, I want to place top three at state,” Baxter said, “I am most excited about River City duals because we come together as a team. “
Cash Lund beat Joe Baxter with a pin and is the 138 varsity starter.
Cole Cooper is the 144 starter beating Ekahi Hamilton with a Tech pin.
“It was the first match of the season so I know not in my head throughout the matches,” Cooper said, “My goal this season is to be a state finalist. I am most excited for Rollie Lane because we do not have a lot of tournaments before that so we will be dialed in.”
Austin Howell beat Kenn Winn for the 152 starting spot with a major decision.
Kalab Hammer is the starter at 157 beating Gage McWatters with a tech.
Thayer Sabatke beats Jessie Tincup at 165 claiming his varsity spot with a major decision.
At 175 Peyton Sardinha beats Ty Tincup with a pin.
Wyatt Berger is the 190 varsity starter.
At 215 Ernie Steele beats Daemom Huddelston with a Pin.
At 285 the starter is undecided Zane Grey will wrestle Carter Vanak tonight at practice for the starting spot.
The starting lineup is looking solid this wrestling season, so come support the wrestlers at the home opener on December 4th.
