The Saturday before Thanksgiving break (Nov 23) Lakeland High School had the pleasure of hosting this year’s drama districts competition. With many schools having students competing against each other in a wide range of theatrical categories Lakeland has the pleasure of sending many students to state or as alternates.
These categories ranged from tech-related categories such as costumes, set design, and makeup, to acting in serious or humorous pieces either solo or as an ensemble.
We have seven students making it to state and three more who are alternates at the competition this year.
In the category of costumes, Ciara McKinzie is an alternate with a dress she made titled Cunegonde from Candide. McKinzie also made it to state placing 8th in Solo Musical Theatre performing Glitter & Be Gay from Candide as well.
In the category of props, Kambree Marreel and Zoey Ebaugh Griffis made it in 3rd place with their Cauldron from The Little Mermaid. Emma Davis also is an alternate in this category with the Lair bench from The Little Mermaid.
In Ensemble Humerous Leeann Lohf and Amelia Hamburger are going to state as they placed 2nd for their skit titled Mating Season for Flying Monkeys.
In the Ensemble Serious category, Jade Lodoen and Colton Cleiman are alternates for their skit titled Between Mars and Me.
Kendayrah Hammer made it in both original categories where she wrote her pieces. She is an alternate in Original Serious for her piece titled I Have Hope and she tied in 5th place in Original Humorous for her piece titled Almost 18.
In the Pantomime category, Bailey Humphreys and Bri Todd are going to state, they tied in 4th place along with four other groups for their piece called Only a Memory, and they were coached by Ashley Marazzo.
Lohf once again placed in 3rd for the Solo Audition category for performing the monologues Dags and One Way Conversation. Rebekah Lewis is an alternate for her performance of the monologues Free Churro and Diwata’s monologue.
Lodoen once again placed this time as 2nd for Solo Humorous performing a monologue titled It’s Terrible Being Nice and Jonathan Nicolabo Yumol is an alternate for Solo Serious with his performance of the monologue 12 Monkeys.
While more students from Lakeland competed they unfortunately placed lower not qualifying them for state or as alternates.
State is this upcoming weekend and we send our best to those competing in Twin Falls!
