The Lakeland cross-country team went down to state and showed everyone what they had been working on all season.
The Hawks cross country program has had plenty of success this year, and their hard work paid off at state.
The meet took place in Eagle Island State Park down south. Some races did not go the Hawks way but that didn’t stop these athletes from performing at their highest level.
Piper Peterson ran a 20:55.25 in the girls 5000-meter race setting a new personal record for herself and scoring 37 points for the cross-country team. She took 44th place.
The boys had a great day on the track with Frank Mcarthey taking 24th place with a time of 16:53.48. Mccarthy did not get a personal record this time but still put on a stunning performance down south.
Right behind him was Charlie Matilla taking 36th place with a time of 17:04.32.
Although the Hawks had no podium runners, they still accomplished many things and allowed some athletes to get great experience for the next season. Being able to learn from meets or a game in any sport is extremely important for team growth.
These athletes showed that no matter the circumstance or placement, they will not back down and will not slow down.
“It’s never over till it’s over,” Mccarthy said. From personal records to great experience, and overall just having fun, the Hawks did it all down south and are ready to take on anything that stands in front of them.
The Lakeland team is more than ready for next season.
