The Hawks prepare this week to battle it out with the Lewiston Bengals.
This game will be the second conference game of the season for the Hawks. Not only is this their second conference game but it’s the first time that the Hawks have to play the Bengals in conference.
With division changes, it will be very interesting to see how this game goes. The last time the Hawks played against the Bangles was in the 2020 season and Lakeland ended up coming out with the victory 39-24. Both teams have grown through the years and since this is Lakeland’s last season game, the Hawks are looking to end on a high note.
“To head into the playoffs coming off a big win like that would be huge for our morale,” Haydon Benson said.
To walk into playoffs beating a team of such magnitude as Lewiston is a massive morale booster.
Although the Hawks go to Lewiston for this away game, if Lakeland can come out on top they will host the first round of the 5A state playoffs at home.
The Hawks are ranked number 3 in the 5A division via maxpreps, ranking them above Lewiston and Bishop Kelley.
“Hosting a playoff game would be such a cool experience for not only us as a team but Rathdrum as a town” Lovie Weil said.
The Lakeland team has a chance to prove a lot of schools wrong this year and Jace Taylor says they plan on doing it.
“People love to doubt us, seeing Lakeland as underdogs but they couldn’t be more wrong,” Taylor said.
With that kind of mindset it is hard to get in a team’s way especially when they’re moving full steam ahead with no plan on slowing down for anyone. “I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, the Hawks are here and we’re here to stay,” Taylor said.
