The Lakeland 2024 boys soccer season has come to an end. A constant display of athleticism and strong will is something this team truly showed.
Although the record was 3-6-5, the team would not let that define them. Tying the Post Falls Trojans 2-2 then coming back for it all later on in the season and beating them 4-2.
That just shows true determination, knowing that the team didn’t get the job done the first time and coming back later to finish it stronger than ever. “Beating Post Falls was certainly one of the highlights of the season.” Coach Haynes said.
The Hawks also tied with the Lewiston Bengals who are always a good competition in any sport. A tie game is a weird feeling, it’s not a win, but it’s also not a loss.
I feel a tie game shows good competition and even though no team comes out on top, it still shows both teams are very well fit for the job.
Tie games are something that the Hawks came across quite a bit this season which can be pretty rare in a season. Ending the season with 5 tie games, it’s definitely not something you see everyday.
Fighting to the end in every game the Hawks picked up some very solid wins. Beating St Georges High School 2-0. Any win feels good no matter the opponent. “I thought the boys improved a lot over the course of the season,” Coach Haynes said. But what are the stats looking like for these Hawks athletes?
Cade Pitman averaged 0.5 goals per match leading his team in that category, Ty Vanmeetern averaged 11.4 saves per game, Pittman once again leading his team with 7 goals throughout the season, Pitman also leads the team in points with 15 on the season.
Teams love to use their seniors as much as possible but this Hawks team has some amazing Juniors. Pittman in his Junior year has led his team in almost all stats.
Vanmeetern also leads his team and he is also a Junior. Young talent is so important for teams in High School because it allows coaches to build the team throughout multiple seasons and not just have all their eggs in one basket for one year. The Lakeland coaches get another season with these Juniors and they look to continue to ball out every game. “I am excited for next season. We only had two seniors this year so we are returning most of our team for next year.” Coach Haynes said.
