“Never going to give you up, never going to let you down, never going to run around and desert you. “ That simple claim by none other than the legendary Rick Astley is one of the most famous musical quotes of all-time, and using that quote kills two birds with one stone because everyone reading this article just got rickrolled.

Many students at Lakeland High School have had a very similar attitude when it comes to music, where they will always turn to music and will never give it up or stop listening to their music no matter what.

2020 was a very rough and challenging year for everyone, and one thing that many students claimed help them through it was music. Whether it is listening to peaceful music to help focus or fall asleep or blasting your favorite album at full volume when you have a hard day, music can help many people through even the hardest of times.

Although most students at LHS listen to music very frequently, they tend to have a wide variety of styles and genres of music. Many LHS students were asked what type of music they turn to when having a rough day or just listen to daily no matter their mood.

After talking to a large number of students, the answers were very unpredictable and spread out. The types of popular music for students were broken down into a few primary genres.

From Juice Wrld to Mongolian metal music, the LHS students certainly have a wide variety of music tastes. As expected, about 85% of the results consisted of country, rap, or pop. However, the rest of the responses consisted of reggae, Mongolian metal, Motown, rock, emo metal, and classical Beethoven piano sonatas.

The most popular responses for the favorite artist was a combination of Morgan Wallen and Juice Wrld. However, many people also claimed that Billie Eilish or Lil Uzi Vert was their favorite. One of the most popular responses was, “I listen to too much music to break it down into one genre or group, so I wouldn’t know how to answer that.”

As there always will be when taking a survey with such a wide plethora of possible answers, there were many unordinary and unexpected answers, however the majority of the answers aligned with the most common type of music in America, according to www.statista.com.
