The looks of a cartoon, the usability of a truck, the 1961 Chevrolet Corvair Rampside truck. The Rampside truck is one of the most unique-looking trucks ever built.
An air-cooled flat-six powers this Rampside, equipped with a 3-speed automatic transmission. This truck has Toyo tires in the rear and Cooper tires in the front. The Rampside has a very nostalgic and unique look when it comes to the dents on the side which gives it better aerodynamics. Thus being said with all that, this trick has a top speed of 100MPH on a good day.
The truck has a beautiful green color with a full green interior. A bench seat that seats 3 people. The truck has aftermarket modernized seatbelts fitted to meet today’s safety standards.
“That truck looks ugly but in a beautiful way or beautiful in an ugly way I can’t quite tell, but it’s definitely different and cool,” Delany Gorton, an English teacher at Lakeland High School said.
This truck has a different bed liner in it from what came in it originally, the front of the bed has a black diamond plate welded to the bottom for more support and to be able to withstand more weight.
The first step and back of the bed have a normal bed liner you would see in trucks today. The ramp is on the right side which because this truck was only produced in America made it convenient for deliveries because the ramp would pretty much line up flat with the curb.
“The ramp is a great addition to the truck, they should still do that stuff today it would make loading my 4wheeler way easier,” said sophomore Justin Childs
Chevy made this because at the time everyone had a big boat car, so Chevy made the Corvair line up to have a smaller more compact car to compete with the rest of the smaller cars of the time the particular reason for this is they realized that there was a market for it.
The Corvair lineup consisted of a Sadan, Wagon, Truck, Van, Convertible, Coupe, Sport Coupe, and Sport Sadan.
