The Hawk Stars will soon open the stage curtains and transport Lakeland High School under the sea.
On November 14, 15th and 16th, LHS Hawk stars are putting on the Little Mermaid Jr. Musical.
“I chose this because I love the creativity and I feel like we can make something great,” Allison Knoll said.
This performance was supposed to be performed last year, but they needed more rehearsal time to feel prepared to go out on stage.
Many of the cast members are involved in spring sports, which can cause conflicts, so fall showtime worked better for them.
They have tons of kids signed up eager to put on this show and they could even open up auditions to elementary and middle school kids, which will hopefully bring in even more people.
However, there is one minor problem: they have no King Triton. Which is kind of an important role in this production. Only a male can play this role because it is not as versatile as other male roles may be.
King Triton has a distinct, manly voice in the movie and it would be a challenge for a girl to do.
“This role is hard to cast because I can not use a girl,” Knoll said.
But, to fill this role, they need more guys to audition. This is a battle because not only are there a lot of sports going on that take up all of their time, but also because guys in theater are extremely rare, especially in high school. Some boys may think that others will make fun of them for being weird. Which is why the female students outweigh the males in this class.
Some of the key cast members are Ciara Mckinzie, Cooper Allen and Kambree Marreel.
Mckinzie and Allen are playing the two lead roles of Ariel and Prince Eric. With Marreel as Mckinzie’s partner in crime, Flounder.
The Hawk Stars program had an abnormal year this year because musicals are normally biannual, but instead, they decided to push this one back one more year.
Knoll is also worried that the sets may not be achievable. However, our stagecraft is great and they will do amazing no matter what.
