A well-deserved win has finally arrived for the Lakeland Hawks. After a tough 2 weeks, the Hawks came out with the win over the undefeated Moscow Bears.
Moscow now moves to 5-1 and the Hawks move to 4-2.
What a way for the Hawks to bounce back, a 35-7 win on the road to get back on track. “The win felt amazing and very well deserved,” Haydon Benson said.
Winning in high fashion, the Hawks played their absolute hearts out, but it wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows. Head coach Mike Schroeder was unable to attend this game along with the Hawks offensive coordinator Tony Porter due to suspension. The suspension was issued due to the intense game against the Post Falls Trojans. This bump in the road would not stop the Hawks from pursuing this big win against the Bears.
Defensive coordinator Tim Kiefer stepped up and coached both offense and defense for the Hawks.
“I was really impressed with the way the team handled everything,” Jace Taylor said. Bumps in the road are no problem for the Hawks, adapting and overcoming is always something Lakeland football strives for and the boys in green and gold gave a perfect demonstration of what that motto means to the team.
Lovie Weil, the star running back of the Hawks, is now averaging 138 rushing yards per game and leads the team in touchdowns this season with 11 rushing/receiving touchdowns.
“As a senior, every game is personal for me, especially this one,” Weil said.
For all the seniors, this is the last time they’ll ever play Moscow, so everyone was trying their hardest to leave it all on the field, and the scoreboard says it all.
Wide receiver Jace Taylor, who is having a stunning junior season, was more than ready for this game and he made sure the Bears will remember his name for next season.
“We all wanted to make a statement in this game, so that’s what we did,” Taylor said. Point made, taking down an undefeated, well-coached team.
“Just because we picked up a couple of losses does not mean we’re a team to be played with,” Taylor said.
The record does not do justice to how truly talented this Lakeland team is and they continue to show that.
One of the Hawks’ big things every season is they will always strive to be the most physical and well-conditioned team on the field, and it truly is remarkable how they meet that standard every season.
After a huge road win, the Hawks look to pick up another one against the Timberlake Tigers.
“The only thing better than winning at home is winning at another team’s home,” Taylor said.
