Lakeland High School’s fall sports have all been putting in overtime over the past few weeks. All the athletes are showing up and playing their hardest at their sport.
The Girl’s cross country team placed 1st as a team at the CANAM invitational.
Piper Peterson came in 5th overall and Sapphire Ruelle came in 8th overall.
In the Boy’s cross country, they placed 2nd as a team.
“I have good teammates so I just stick with them and whatever happens happens,” Charlie Mattila said, “In the middle of a race you kinda just do not think anymore. It creates a sphere of unconscious and helps you not think too hard. I think I definitely need to work on getting more speed throughout the races.”
Frank McCarthy came in 5th, Charlie Mattila in 6th, and Parker Sterling in 7th.
“I think I can get first in districts,” Parler Sterling said, “I have some pretty intense training coming up, I think I’ll be able to take districts. I got out hard and had a good start but then I got taken out by a tree branch so that set me back. I just have to watch out for tree branches.”
The cross-country team is looking really good all season and is continuing to work hard.
The girl’s soccer team has been killing it on the field the past week winning three out of their four games.
On Monday, Sep 16th they beat Timberlake High School 3-1. They had another win against Bonners Ferry 7-1 on Tuesday, Sep 17th. They tied Post Falls High School 2-2 on Thursday, Sep 19th. They also had a high conference win against Moscow High School 4-1 on Saturday, Sep 21st.
“We are all working harder,” Libby Hatcher said, “we are also realizing we have limited time and are having fun. I have been trying my best and trying to get more playing time. We are going to continue strong, we really want to go to state.”
The Girl’s soccer team is showing out this year and has been making huge improvements throughout the season.
The Boy’s soccer team has also been showing out. They beat Timberlake 6-1 on Monday, Sep 16th. They also beat Post Falls 4-2 on Thursday, Sep 19th. They lost against Moscow High School 2-0.
“I think our season is not going as best as it could be, but we have a new player coming that can hopefully save the season,” Cade Pittman said, “I think our lack of intensity is really taking a toll on us, I think if we practice how we should play in a game we can get a lot better. I think as a team we need to work together as a team and have more communication on and off the ball. I think if we get that down we can score and win more.”
The Boy’s golf team got second place and first in our division.
“The team was anchored by dominating performances from Tyler Zachary, Jake Jovick, Marty Babb, Daniel Lowe, and Maddox Score,” Assistant Coach Brian Williams, “The boys did exceptionally and we are hoping to repeat our performance at districts and go to state.”
The Girl’s golf team did not have a complete because two girls were sick.
“It was a really tough course with golfers needing to clear water on every hole, and given the difficulty of the course our girls did very well,” Colleen Hall, “We are looking forward to districts next week. I think the boys have a good chance of winning, and the girls have a shot at getting 2nd.”
