On Friday, Sept. 20, 2024, the Lakeland Hawks housed the Post Falls Trojans for The Hawks’ homecoming game
Unfortunately for the Hawks, they lost the game 21-20.
In the last 3 minutes, post falls was up 21-16, forcing the Hawks to make one final push to try and win the game.
The Hawks gave it their all for this last push, with continuous progress on the field ending with a touchdown. Going for the win, the Hawks wanted to try for a two-point conversion but were shut down by the Trojans.
“It would have been hard for us to compete against a larger team in overtime,” senior Hayden Benson said.
In the first half of the game, the Hawks had multiple fumbles transferring the possession to the Trojans. These fumbles both happened after good drives and near the end zone.
“I think we came out of halftime flat and too confident and it came back and bit us in the butt,” junior Jace Taylor said
“Just small mistakes from us on those fumbles,” Freshman Nate Bevaqua said.
During half-time, the homecoming royalty was announced and the Hawks quarterback Hayden Benson got the honor of being chosen as homecoming king.
“It’s cool and well appreciated that my classmates chose me to be homecoming king,” Benson said.
The Hawks will continue their campaign when they take on the Moscow in a rare Thursday night game on Sept. 26 at Moscow.
