The Lakeland Hawks Volleyball picked up two sweeps in their conference games. The Moscow Bears came to Lakeland High School on Sep. 17 and were defeated by the Hawks. The Hawks are making big plays this year and are not letting other teams get the best of them. Even when they struggle, they find ways to rise above their mistakes and look great on the court.
Addy Jo Hocking had 12 digs and 3 Aces throughout the game. She was a dominant force throughout the whole game and not much was getting past her.
“We all were there early for practice and we all knew we had to win,” Hocking said, “This win means we are number one in the district and we can play at home. I felt like I talked in the back row and told the hitters where to hit. I feel like I did my part bringing everyone together.”
The Sandpoint Bulldogs also came to Lakeland High school and had the same fate as the Bears. They were swept by the Hawks on Sep. 19.
“I feel like we had to be in the right head space since we did not have Ziya Munyer,” Chloe Neff said, “I feel like I played good I definitely see things I can improve on. I feel am becoming more of a asset to the team and improving my skills. After beating all the teams in out league we have confidence in ourselves and our skills to win districts.”
The Hawks had the Bulldogs in the first two sets without a doubt. As they got into the third set, the Bulldogs were putting up quite a battle so the Hawks had to step up. The Hawks had a quick battle back and took the third set 25-22.
“We had our team bonding we go to dinner every monday and I think It helps us communicate more on the court and have a good time at practice,” Alyssa Ryckman said, “We also have been doing new cheers and I think it puts us in a better environment. I think we relized all out mistakes that lead to them getting ahead were just unforced errors like misserves, mishits, and even some blocking. Overall we all did a great job and came back.”
The Hawks progress is definitely showing throughout their season with two major conference wins being secured the Hawks are looking at a pretty high chances of making it to state.
