The seniors on Lakeland’s varsity girls’ soccer team got recognition for their hard work throughout their years on the team.
Tuesday, Sep. 17, the Lakeland Hawks girl’s soccer team played against the Bonners Ferry Badgers, beating them 7-1
The first half of the game was very competitive with the Hawks scoring within 5 minutes, but the Badgers came back soon after and scored to tie it up.
The game became very slow as neither team could score on the other. There were plenty of opportunities that either were missed or not executed properly for both teams. However, just before the half, the Hawks were able to break through their defenses and score making it 2-1.
During halftime, all the Lakeland seniors got recognized for their achievements, time, and dedication they had given to the school.
Katie Cameron, Libby Hatcher, Evelyn Bowie, Ruby McIntosh, Brook Gregory and Kendal Nolan all got recognized and got to tell a little about themselves, and what they want to do in the future. Some were broad, such as moving to a completely different continent to pursue their love for soccer, while some were more tame, such as finishing high school and figuring it out from there.
They were all accompanied by their loving, supporting parents, siblings, and loved ones. Each was called by name and got to get an amazing picture of the ones who cared for them the most.
“Nice to have parents come out and get recognized for last year with Lakeland,” Senior Libby Hatcher said
In the second half, it was nothing short of a massacre, Lakeland was in possession of the ball for most of the 40 minutes and scored 5 times during the second half. They were able to break through the Bonner’s defense with ease, creating openings and taking advantage of those openings time and time again.
“I feel that we came together more as a team and performed at our top,” Hatcher said
Bonners did indeed get close to scoring a couple of times after some disruption with the Lakeland flow, though Bonners did not use these openings to their advantage and got countered by Lakeland’s defending line.
After this dominating win for the Lakeland Hawks, the only expectation is that they carry this momentum into the next game against Post Falls.
“We beat them last time, so I think we’ll do good,” Hatcher said.
