Music, without a doubt, can define your whole summer.
The perfect combination of songs can be the cherry on top of any beach day, late-night car ride, or ride trip.
I love having select albums to listen to in the summertime, and I feel like it somehow unlocks a sense of nostalgia when the weather finally gets warm. You can turn up the music and automatically feel that warmth and joy.
Here are some of my top picks for albums to listen to in the summer
Starting off strong is the iconic pop album 1989 by Taylor Swift which everyone should already have on repeat regardless of the weather. 1989 is just perfect in the summertime, especially with songs like “Style,” “I Wish You Would,” “New Romantics,” and “Suburban Legends.”
All the songs on this album were practically handcrafted to be listened to in the car with your windows rolled down, screaming every lyric with your friends. 1989 is already such a fun album, and it’s the perfect soundtrack for all the summer memories you might make.
Similarly to 1989 is another Swift album Lover. Coming out in the summer of 2019, it was set up for success as a summer album, especially with the masterpiece that is “Cruel Summer” (I mean c’mon summer is literally in the title).
The whole aesthetic and overall vibe of the album screams summer fun. Track after track, it is just amazing songs where you can practically feel the joy and passion radiating in Swift’s voice as she sings “ME!,” “You Need To Calm Down,” “I Forgot That You Existed,” and “Death By A Thousand Cuts.”
There is something for everyone in this album, and it is guaranteed to get spirits high and people dancing and singing their hearts out on a fun sunny day!
If you’ve been on TikTok recently, you probably know who Chappell Roan is, as she is quickly taking over pop music with her recent album, The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess.
Chappell Roan is well known as “your favorite artist’s favorite artist” because, in all honesty, she is.
This album was designed to jump and dance to, literally. Roan has gained incredible popularity over social media, and rightfully so.
Her songs “HOT TO GO!”, “After Midnight,” and “Super Graphic Ultra Modern Girl” are some of my favorites that are definitely going on my summer playlist. This album is perfect for a late night in the summer. This is an absolute no-skip album and I highly recommend giving it a listen this summer.
Of course, the summer is all about having fun and being happy while savoring those few months before school, but that doesn’t mean all the perfect summer albums are happy.
One of my favorite things in music is absolute soul-crushing lyrics put to an incredibly happy beat.
The Record by Boygenius is a perfect example of this! The hit singles from the album “$20” and “Not Strong Enough” are on repeat for me all summer.
They somehow capture the warmth so perfectly in an unexplainable way, but at the same time, they manage to juxtapose that with the lyrics of lingering sadness and worry.
Just because the weather is warm doesn’t mean people’s emotions and stress suddenly leave, and sometimes that needs to be acknowledged, but at least you can have a fun beat to do it to. The whole album is amazing, and I have it on repeat 24/7 during the summer.
Another album with coupled sadness and upbeat is Melodrama by Lorde. This is an album all about love and partying and isn’t that basically what summer is about too?
“Melodrama is the album for summer because it just evokes so much fun and emotion,” Callum Coffey said.
Melodrama certainly isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but it is undeniable that “Supercut” is the best summer song to blast on the speakers.
“[These albums] definitely bring up the mood of summer like with the lyrics they are very summer vibes,” Kambree Marreel said.
I think everyone should put a lot of thought into their summer soundtrack and use it to establish the vibe they want to make the most out of one of the most fun times of the year.
I recommend taking these albums into consideration, as they definitely won’t disappoint.
