The new finals schedule for Lakeland High School has been a big talk throughout the halls. With school ending, finals are just around the corner and the schedule has officially been posted.
While the schedule for finals is typically the last two days of school with three classes per day. The new schedule has finals for the last three days of the week doing half of the schedule the first day and half of the schedule the second.
The new schedule has Monday and Tuesday as finals for seniors, and then the following Wednesday is a normal bell schedule with the 2nd-period final being in the middle. As for Thursday and Friday, the finals schedule is First, Third, and Fourth all on Thursday, and Fifth and Sixth on Friday as long as a half day.
With this schedule being different from normal, a lot of students have expressed concern about how their schedule is going to look or if they even have to show up on certain days at all.
“I do not like the finals schedule this semester, I had a routine to study for the last schedule and now I have to find a new one for this schedule,” Keona Roemmerman said.
Overall, students do not seem happy with the new schedule. Some students do not have a second period and are concerned about how they will fill their time while they wait to go to their other classes. Others are worried about it being too much stress on them to do a final and five other classes all in one day. Some other students have all their finals on one day or the other and do not think it is even worthwhile to show up on the other days they do not.
“All my seniors take their finals on Monday and Tuesday and then I just have to wait till the very last period of the very last day to give out my Psychology final,” Shanda Heacock said.
The finals schedule is a heated topic amongst the school and a lot are not on the agreement side. A lot of complaints have been made and people are very unhappy, but they also wonder why the schedule is this way, and why it had to change.
The final schedule also affects me personally with the way my schedule is laid out. For my second period, I am a TA and do not have an “official” final, I also do not have finals I have to take on Friday in my fifth or sixth period, whereas on Thursday I have all of my finals and it is a lot to pack into one day.
It is very stressful to take all of my finals in one day and I do not like the thought of it.
For the last three years I have been at Lakeland the schedule has been odd and even periods for the last two days. This schedule always worked out well because it would split my core classes and my elective classes so I did not have a lot of finals to do in one day.
Finals are already very stressful and having to fit them all into one day can make it worse.
I am not a big fan of the new finals schedule and hope it goes back next year, as do many others.
