Four Lakeland Hawks scored double digit points and 34 team rebounds in a close loss to the Lake City Timberwolves.

The Hawks (2-1) went against the Timberwolves (1-0) at home on Saturday, Dec. 5. The Timberwolves prevailed and won a close game 65-63.

Entering the game, the Lakeland Hawks won two games to start their season, even winning by 60 points in their first game. Jared Rings, a junior guard for the Hawks stated that “Lake City is going to be our toughest matchup this season”.

During the first quarter, the Hawks scored 14 points with Noah Haaland getting a steal that turned into a dunk that gave the Hawks a boost going into the 2nd Quarter.

In the first half, The Hawks scored 27 points, including Carson Seay three pointer in the 2nd Quarter. Yet they were still behind the Timberwolves by 2 points.

With the game being close, the Hawks scored three 3’s in the 3rd quarter, totaling 19 points in the third, yet they fell behind the Timberwolves with Kolton Mitchell being fouled on two 3’s.

With 6 minutes left in the 4th quarter, the Hawks were behind 12 points, but the game is never over until the buzzer sounds. The Hawks came back into the game with multiple layups and rebounds. With only 10 seconds left, one 2 points behind. A foul on the Hawks was committed and the ball was given to the Timberwolves.

The last score was 63-65. With 4 Lakeland Hawks scoring double digit points. Yet that wasn’t enough to stop Timberwolves Kolton Mitchell dropping 31 points, including seven 3s.

Lakeland Hawks next game is against the Coeur d’ Alene Vikings on Thursday, Dec. 10 at 7 p.m.
