Despite a competitive battle, the Lakeland Lady Hawks couldn’t handle the Post Falls Lady Trojans’ depth and raw talent and came up short 70-53 in the season opener on Thursday night at Lakeland High School.

Katy Ryan led the Lady Hawks scoring with a dominant 16 points and was unstoppable on the boards, acquiring rebound after rebound and quite a few blocks on the way as well.

Another critical playmaker for the Lady Hawks was Abbie Neff, who scored 11 points and was all over the court making plays throughout the game’s entirety. Addie Kiefer was also a big key to the game, getting to the foul line multiple times and playing suffocating defense.

The Lady Hawks were on a good run and had the momentum entering the fourth quarter, but the Lady Trojans made a statement by dominating the fourth quarter and finishing on a 22-5 run.

Lakeland head coach Seymour said, “Post Falls is a very talented school, and they earned this one. We turned the ball over a little bit too much, but the game played out pretty much as expected, and I’m looking forward to the rest of the season with this group of talented girls.”

The Lady Hawks fell to 0-1 after this game and will look to bounce back next week.

The Lady Hawks will resume play on Nov. 24 at Timberlake High School.
