Late Field Goal Puts Century over Lakeland

On  Friday October, 29 the Lakeland Hawks fell in a first-round playoff game 17-14 against the Century High School Diamondbacks.

The Hawks played a hard fought game but in the end it wasn’t enough. 

The Diamondbacks were the first to strike in the first quarter with a 1 yard touchdown.

Lakeland took their time to get going, but eventually came to life in the second quarter.

The Hawks would march the ball down the field for 73 yards on 13 plays that got them down to the 4 yard line. The Hawks converted on 4th down with a trick play appropriate for the night before Halloween. Thomas Calder completed a pass to Devon Suko, who split out wide, for the 4 yard score.

The Diamond backs answered back with a 25 yard touchdown pass to put them in the lead by 7 points.

The Diamondbacks had a rough second half turning the ball over 3 times. This lead to a 14-yard touchdown pass from Devon Suko to Ammon Munyer putting the hawks at 14 point were they would stay for the rest of the game.

In the 4th quarter the would kick a field goal to put them up 17-14 to end the game. 

The Hawks finished the season with a 3-5 record.
