The swish of the net. The cheering of the crowd. The blow of a whistle. You would have heard this as the Lady Hawks soccer team fell to the Moscow Bears on Sep. 11. The Lady Bears’ defense was on point and prevented the Lady Hawks from scoring. The final score was 4-0, Moscow getting the in-league win.

The Hawks’ next game will be nonconference in Bonners Ferry on Sep. 17 against the Bonners Ferry Badgers.

The Lady Hawks came into the game with a record of 2-5. The Bears had a record of 5-3 before beating the Hawks.

“It was a very physical game, but the girls never gave up,” said Coach Kevin Rogge when asked how he felt about how the girls played.

The Lady Hawks are ranked third after losing to both Sandpoint and Moscow in the 4A district 2 classification.

When asked how he felt about the game and how the team did against the Bears, Lakeland coach Kevin Rogge said, “We had our chances, plenty of shots on the goal, and even hit the post a few times. It just didn’t go our way.”

The Hawks played a challenging game and will continue to work to improve before their upcoming games to finish off the season.

Lakeland Lady Hawk Malia Batman said, “One thing that we have been working on in practice is communicating with one another. Being in the goal, I see and hear everything.” Communication can be one of the most essential parts of the game. It can be the difference between winning and losing the game.

The Lakeland boys soccer team fell to the sixth-ranked team in Idaho, Post Falls Trojans. The final score of this non-conference away game was 6-1 trojans.

When asked how he felt about the game, Owen Rose said, “We played tough, but ultimately we missed opportunities. there were plenty of times that we could have scored, but we did what we could”.

The Hawks will play their next game on Sept. 17 at home against the Bonners Ferry Badgers. This game will be another nonconference game for the Hawks.

Owen Rose said, “Bonners has a really tough this team this year, and we are going to have to play really hard and make sure we make every one of our shots count; we need to take advantage of their mistakes.”

The Badgers boys team currently holds a record of 5 wins and one loss. They are currently the top team in the 3A classification. So they are the top team to beat in their classification. The Badgers girl’s team currently has a record of 5 wins and 0 losses; however, they are currently ranked number two in their classification.
