The Lakeland Hawks baseball team’s season has ended, as they are emotionally sending off a group of talented seniors. The Hawks finished their season with a 4-16 record but did win three games in conference, finishing 3-12 against the Bears and the Bulldogs. The Hawks sat at second in the conference, entering the last week of regular season play. However, their season unfortunately ended by losing three consecutive conference games, two to Sandpoint and one to Moscow, to shut the door on the season. 

“I ended my senior season really hot, and I was seeing the ball really well and doing my thing on the mound. Surprisingly, I got the tears out pretty early. My favorite moment of the season was probably our last game of the season against Moscow in districts, even though we ended up losing. My favorite game of all of high school was definitely reaching state freshman year,” senior Sean Tierney said, reflecting back on his senior season and the feeling of his high school career being done. 

Cameron Harris, Sean Tierney, Tanner Vandever, Dylan Dugger, Sam Pemberton, and Jacob Schaffner have all played their final high school games and all contributed greatly to the Hawks through their varsity careers over the years. The Hawks had four players hit above the .300 mark on the season, Raiston Ellwood, Tanner Vandever, Payden Wysong, and Cameron Harris. 

When referring to his season, junior Blaze Day said, “We got better every day, but it was the little things that ended our season. But it was a really fun season, but we had great chemistry, and I enjoyed it. We’re losing some good guys, but I’m looking forward to being a senior next season. My favorite moments of the season were the Boise tournament and sweeping Sandpoint.”

The Hawks season came to a bittersweet ending and now the team will look forward to bouncing back in the 2023 spring season.
