A lot of different debates have come up in recent years, with is the dress blue and black or white and gold? Are there more doors or wheels in the world? Yet, one of the most important ones that hasn’t been discussed enough is which peanut butter is better, creamy or crunchy?

Peanut butter is an essential in many different recipes and is an iconic flavor. Most think of peanut butter as in PBJ sandwiches, the classic food everyone had as a kid. It is also in different candies such as Reeces and Nutter Butters. Peanut butter is even paired with healthy foods such as bananas, apples, and celery.

Jif is the most iconic company when it comes to peanut butter, Lakeland food and nutrition teacher Sarah Nave said, “(Peanut butter) has to be Jif”. Jif makes multiple different kinds of peanut butter, but the most popular is creamy peanut butter and crunchy peanut butter.

These two types of peanut butter have caused a huge debate between many students and teachers at Lakeland. Some say creamy peanut butter is the way to go, others say crunchy peanut butter is drastically better.

To find out which peanut butter is better, many students and teachers were asked which type of peanut butter they prefer. Out of the 157 people that were surveyed, 70 percent of them said the creamy peanut butter is the better out of the two, with only 30 percent saying crunchy peanut butter is superior.

Lakeland student Brea Reed use to be a creamy peanut butter person but switched to crunchy peanut butter after having it for the first time.

“I use to be a creamy peanut butter person, but once I tried crunchy peanut butter my life changed for the better,” Reed said.

On the other hand, Lakeland algebra 2 and trig/pre-calc teacher Denise Novak grew up with crunchy peanut butter but made the change to creamy peanut butter.

“My mom growing up would always get crunchy or extra crunchy peanut butter,” Novak said.

Lakeland’s principal assistant and head coach of track Brian Etchison is a fan of both types of peanut butter, but it depends on the scenario.

“If you’re eating a PBJ sandwich, it’s crunchy peanut butter. If it’s right out of the jar, creamy peanut butter,” Etchison said.

Personally, creamy peanut butter is the one and only way you should have peanut butter. As a kid, I would steal jars of peanut butter and hide them under my pillow with a spoon and eat them during the night. Peanut butter is one of my favorite foods in the world, it goes great with so many things and I have yet to find something that isn’t improved with peanut butter.

Something I do that gets criticized a lot for is putting peanut butter on top of my scrambled eggs. If you just drizzle some on top, or make peanut butter toast and lay some scrambled eggs over the top, there isn’t a better way you can start your day. Even actor Scott Foley puts peanut butter on top of his scrambled eggs, just give it a try and it will change your life.
