The Lakeland Lady Hawks and the Coeur d’Alene Lady Vikings squared off in a Tuesday night showdown on Dec. 14. The Lady Vikings were heavy favorites entering the game with a 5-0 record against the 2-3 Lady Hawks. The Vikings defeated the Hawks 62-36 in a game that looked somewhat promising for the Hawks early on.  

Lakeland only trailed by one point halfway through the second quarter, but a breakout performance from both Skylar Burke and Madison Symons helped the Vikings improve to 6-0 and the Hawks fell to 2-4. Symons and Burke combined for 48 points with 28 for Burke and 20 for Symons. The Vikings only had seven scorers in the game, but these two combined for nearly 80% of the team’s points. 

The Hawks rally was led by Addie Kiefer who strung together a series of hustle plays and scored 17 points. The Hawks finished with 36 points with Kiefer scoring nearly half of the points, continuing her role as leader of coach Seymour’s team. 

Couer d’Alene ran away with the lead by scoring 33 second-half points and completing the road victory. 

Lakeland will play next on Dec. 17 against the Moscow Lady Bears.
