The Lakeland Hawks traveled across Highway 41 in an attempt to upset the Post Falls Trojans on their homecoming night. Lakeland tied the game at 14 late in the first quarter hoping to take the lead. However, that would be the closest they played the Trojans for the remainder of the game. 

The Trojans came out on top 41-14, however, the Hawks played a tough, 60-minute game all the way through. 

John Cornish had yet another great game rushing for two early touchdowns to help the Hawks put up a mighty fight in the opening quarter. Later in the game, the difference in depth was a huge factor with the Hawks seemingly running low on gas all game, while the Trojans were able to keep their guys fresh and give them adequate rest. 

Thomas Calder led the Hawk’s defense with three tackles including one tackle for loss. Lucas Williams recovered a fumble in the first quarter and it seemed that the Hawks were going to take advantage of the momentum change.

Shortly after the drive started, Devon Suko threw a costly interception into the secondary, putting the momentum back into the hands of the Trojans. Unfortunately for the Hawks, the Trojans didn’t lose hold of that momentum, scoring 27 unanswered to finish the game. 

Although they had over 200 yards of total offense, the Trojans offense was successful all night totaling nearly 500 yards. 

When asked about the game, coach Brian Etchison said “Our guys were clearly tired and when playing a high-level opponent like Post Falls, we can’t afford to let up. We had a good game, but definitely need to be more disciplined and fundamental. We will work hard this week and hopefully bounce back next week.” 

Etchison emphasized that the team needs to look forward and not focus on their loss. 

The Hawks will look to pull off a win in their next game on Oct. 1 at 7 p.m. at home against Timberlake.
