When sitting down to watch a movie, one will typically look at the different genres to choose from. This review contains spoilers. If you want to watch a Sci-fi or action movie Godzilla vs. Kong is a great choice.

On March 31, 2021 Godzilla vs. Kong was released to theaters and a streaming service called HBO Max. It came in with a box office of 48.5 million dollars. However, it cost around 160 million dollars to make. 

The movie opens up with Kong being stuck in a monitoring simulation on Skull Island. Kong realizes he is trapped and attempts to break free, however this proves unsuccessful.

While this is occurring, Godzilla attacks Apex headquarters located on the coast of America. Apex is a company that is monitoring these giants and trying to get rid of them. 

Apex needs a way to fight Godzilla. They decide that they are going into “Hollow Earth” to track down a large energy source they are going to use to fight Godzilla. Hollow Earth is an ecosystem below the earth’s surface where all of these massive animals come from.

Apex decides they need to use Kong and his memory to locate the energy source. So, his caretakers strap down Kong on a boat and take him to the only known entrance to this underground ecosystem which happens to be in Antarctica. 

While Kong is strapped down to the ship, Godzilla senses him and comes to attack. Godzilla and Kong begin their first battle in the ocean. Godzilla has the advantage quickly due to the fact that Kong is stuck and isn’t very good in the water. 

Godzilla gains the upper hand and begins to drown Kong. The people on the ship come to his rescue and shoot missiles at Godzilla. Kong gets on the ship defeated and plays dead so that way Godzilla will leave them alone.

They take Kong to Antarctica and they enter Hollow Earth. Kong finds the energy source and finds an axe that gets powered up by the energy. They leave the Hollow Earth and head to Hong Kong to go fight Godzilla while he destroys another Apex HQ.

Godzilla and Kong fight and Kong uses his axes and destroys Godzilla. However, Mechagodzilla arrives after being finished by Apex and their new power supply from Hollow Earth. 

Godzilla and Kong team up to fight the human creation and eventually kill it. After that, Godzilla ends the movie by entering the ocean and swims away while Kong stands and watches.

This movie got a 75% on Rotten Tomatoes and a 6.6 out of 10 IMDb. Most criticize the plot and lack of character development. However, the movie is about King Kong and Godzilla fighting, so I don’t know what they were expecting. 

This movie is a solid 8/10.
