We all know what teachers say about coming to class prepared and getting to class on time. But what truly makes a perfect student? 

The idea of a perfect student might be warped. Why doesn’t everyone try to be a perfect student?

What does it take to be a good student? Some teachers gave their opinions on this question.

“I don’t think there is such a thing as a perfect student,” said Brian Etchison, PE and health teacher at Lakeland High School. “I think good students have a willingness to learn. They put in the effort to be the best they can be and have a good work ethic. I also think that organization is huge.” 

“The qualities of a good student are being self motivated, having a positive attitude, learning from mistakes and being able to work in a group and on one’s own effectively” said Shelley Asher.

Good work ethic, organization and positive attitude. According to the teachers I spoke to, these are very important qualities to be successful.

“Don’t procrastinate,” says Caysen Loutzenhiser.

Being a good student could lead to good grades and good grades can lead to more opportunities. So, why aren’t students jumping on the opportunity?

Sophomore Brandon Jaszewski said, “ to some people, school is not important or significant in their life.” 

“I believe all kids have the potential to be good students. They just need to improve their habits. So the next time you do not feel like doing that assignment that you think isn’t important……Think again” says Jimmy Hoffman, Vice Principal at Lakeland.

Many students have a lot of distractions in their daily life that stop them from doing anything school related. Like Mr. Hoffman said, sometimes it’s just the lack of motivation from students.

“I think every student wants to be a great student in their heart. That gets challenged when it becomes difficult learning a new subject, or maybe it’s a subject that you’re not interested in. The ability to push through that and care enough and do it on a consistent basis is what sets good students apart from students who are going to create their own difficulties in my opinion. You’re going to have to do plenty that you’d rather not and struggle,” states Brian Etchison.
