From January 13 to January 16 the Lakeland Hawks wrestling team wrestled in three matches. They would compete in a dual against the Lake City Timberwolves, a dual against the Nampa and Sandpoint Bulldogs and then the last one was River City duals.

The first match was against the Lake City Timberwolves. The Hawks would beat the Timberwolves 57 to 13. The Timberwolves put up a hard fight but could not keep up with the fast pace and must win mentality of the Hawks.

John White of the Hawks would by far have one of the most suspenseful matches of the evening. By the end if the 182 pound match White would lose 6 to 0 after putting up a tough fight. 

White had tape all around his face trying to stop the blood from pouring out of his nose. After the ref called blood time for the second time on John he stepped out on the mat with fire in his eyes. He was down and was determined to get the take down so he could get points on the board before the end of the match. 

The second match that the Hawks had included the Sandpoint and Nampa Bulldogs.

The Hawks would beat Sandpoint 64 to 8. This was a big win for the Hawks as these matches determined their seeding at the district tournament and even as they headed toward state. 

“I am not happy about the win, some of the matches we had shouldn’t have come that close. We gave them hope that they can come back and beat us at districts” said Coach Rob Edelblute.

The same night, the Hawks would face the Nampa Bulldogs. 

This was a tight match with the Bulldogs taking the win by just 3 points. The final score of the night was Lakeland 39 Nampa 42. 

The Hawks put up a hard fight and it came down to the last two matches of the night at 98 and 106 pounds. 

Mat Williams the 98 pound wrestler for the Hawks would put up a hard fight but sadly got pinned in the third period. The final match of the night was Duke Williamson and he would give up a pin in the first period.

The third match of the week was River City Duals which is a tournament filled with duals. The Hawks would place third in this tournament. 

Coach Rob Edelblute said at the end of the day “We wrestled a lot of tough teams, we still have work to do but we are getting there.”
