Lady Hawks Fall to Sandpoint

The Lakeland Lady Hawks (6-6) hosted the Sandpoint Lady Bulldogs(6-6) and fell short of victory for the third time in their last four games, losing 43-34.

The Lady Bulldogs kept a fast pace and dominated the paint, nearly doubling the Lady Hawks in defensive and offensive rebounds. It was expected to be a good game, but something that has been very typical recently for the Lady Hawks, was their bench underperformed and fell behind when put into the games without help from the starters.

At the beginning of the season, the Lady Hawks appeared to be very dominant and capable of having strong team chemistry.

However, one of the big stat sheet differences from their dominant wins, compared to rough games like these, is the assist numbers for Lakeland are way down.

They have been holding the ball for too long on the majority of their offensive possessions and then scrambling when the shot clock is winding down.

They are a team that averages nearly 50 points per game, and 35 average points from the starters, however in their last four games, they have barely managed to hold a 40 point average overall.

The Lakeland defense has not been the problem, but missed opportunities in the paint and the amount of missed field goals made vs. Sandpoint are the cause of the struggles for the Lady Hawks as of late.

Lakeland will look to bounce back on Tuesday on the road against Post Falls at 6:30 p.m.
